Quick story,

Exactly 12 months ago when I started my blog, I knew 2 things…

Thing #1: I knew I needed to make money off this blog;
Thing #2: I’ll need to invest in the best tools to reach this goal of mine.

In fact, anytime I came across a tool that I was convinced would help my blogs growth, I wrote it down in my list of tools to buy.

blog purchases

To be honest, anytime I purchased a tool from my good’ol list, I see the results I hoped for; sometimes even better. And that’s no different with thrive leads.

Besides, my main goal is to help you boost your sign up rates as well. Now, without wasting much time, let’s jump right into today’s lesson…

How I More than Quadrupled my List Sign Ups with Thrive Leads.

There are just 3 main steps I took after purchasing my thrive leads license

1) Dug deep into conversion rate optimization,
2) Created conversion focused, forms. About 3 main forms.
3) Split tested my forms.

Dug Deep into Conversion Rate Optimization

Immediately after getting my thrive leads license, I knew I didn’t have enough knowledge to start creating conversion-focused forms so I read more about it.

Luckily, when I signed up for thrive leads, I got free in-depth courses and guides on creating better sign up forms for my blog/website(You Get that Too After Purchasing!). I enrolled in one of the courses and also read a bunch of thrive’s own ebooks, guides and freebies.

I also read a couple Thrive Leads case studies.

After all these, I was starting to learn real conversion optimization thus went on to start creating my forms on Thrive Leads.

How to Create Conversion Focused, Forms with Thrive Leads.

After purchasing Thrive Leads, I downloaded the wordpress plugin (wordpress users), installed and activated.

You’ll then need to activate your plugin using your unique activation code generated after purchase.

After you’ve installed your thrive leads plugin, a “Thrive Dashboard” will appear on your wordpress menu. Click on it then click “License Manager“.

Enter the email address you used during purchase and your license key. To find your license key visit the link below and watch the short video.

After activating my plugin, the next thing I did was to start creating forms. I kind of had difficulty getting familiar with thrive leads dashboard but within a day, I was creating forms like a PRO!

Here’s what I learnt;

  • On the “Thrive Dashboard”. You see the list of Thrive Products you’ve purchased (thrive leads, thrive architect…).
  • On the Thrive Leads Dashboard, you’ll see “Lead Groups”, “Lead Shortcodes”, “Thriveboxes” and “Signup Segue” Categories.
  • Forms are created under “Leads Groups”. Different forms are created under these Lead Groups.
  • Each Lead Group will have thesame “Display Rules”. So if you want to create a new form (or set of forms) with different display rules, you need to create a new “Lead Group” for them.
  • “Lead Shortcodes” are embeddable sign up forms that can be inserted in between pages or blog posts. I use one at the end of every blog post. “Thriveboxes” are thesame but use PHP; “Lead Shortcodes” use html which makes it easier to embedd,.
  • “Signup Segue” helps you create 1-click sign up links.

When starting out with Thrive Leads, I only focused on creating just 3 main forms because I read they generally convert better. Don’t worry, I’m going to reveal these 3 forms for you but before that I want you to keep this in mind…

“I actually created other signup forms (more than 3) but I’m only going to talk about these 3 because they converted better than other forms which didn’t convert well!”

The 3 main signup forms are created that quadrupled my signups were;

Lightbox,
Ribbon and,
Slide In Forms.

Lightbox is a signup form that pops over the screen and covers the blog content behind. Here’s a screen capture.

lightbox

Ribbons are forms that basically float either at the top or bottom of your page. These forms float as the reader scrolls and reads through your content.

ribbon

Slide In Forms: As the name implies, these forms slide smoothly into any page as the reader reads. Most times Slide In forms are not meant to cover the blog content unlike Lightboxes. The reader can choose to optin or ignore; either way, he’s not interrupted by the form.

 slidein

There are certain settings or tweaks to each optin form here that makes sure it converts at its peak. To be able to turn your blog into a lead generating maching, you need to tweak a thing a or two on every form you create.

For example, you need to make sure your slide-In pops at the perfect time OR you need to make sure you Lightbox pops up at the perfect time to convert more visitors. They’re pretty simple and I’ll be sharing those with you…

How to Make Sure Your Lightbox, Ribbon and Slide-In Forms Convert Effectively

Lightbox: Set your lightbox to pop up immediately after visitors land on your blog. This ensures you don’t miss out on any traffic at all. here’s the thing…

Lightboxes can be annoying to readers because they cover the content their reading and you wouldn’t want that to happen which is why my lightboxes are always set to pop up once everyday per user. This simply means, users will only see your lightbox once every 24 hours.

Pretty fair right? COOL!

Ribbon: Ribbons are more like the Slide-Ins because they both don’t obstruct the readers’ content hence you can be a little loose on this one. I set my ribbons to pop up as the page loads and should also be sticky since it doesn’t cover content.

Slide-Ins: Like I said, Slide-Ins are like Ribbons because they don’t cover your blog’s content. My Slide-In is set to pop up after users scroll down to 10% of the page they’re reading.

This is so because I wouldn’t want too many forms to pop up on page load; they make blogs look creepy!

Split Testing

Split testing on thriveleads is as easy as Google searching. All you need to do is to create a different form type (change colour, button, texts, copy…) and hit the “Start Splittest” button.

Here’s how…

Goto your ThriveLeads Dashboard, select the Lead Group where the Optin Form (you want to split test) is then hit the EDIT button (on the form you are splittesting) as shown below.

splittest

You’ll be taken to the next page, click on ADD A NEW FORM to add a new and different form.

This will trigger a SPLIT TEST button below the forms.

Click the SPLIT TEST button to begin split testing.

You could add as many forms as you like. Thrive Leads allows you to split test them all at once.

Thrive even has a feature where the system will automatically pick the winner amongst the split tested forms. While the rest are archived.
